Thank you Bill Beasley, Polk County Manager, Kiwanis Club of Lakeland’s guest speaker today. As the head of Polk County’s government administrative branch, Mr. Beasley is responsible for the Board of County Commissioners policy directions, managing budget and staffing resources, engaging in community relations, fostering economic development, conferring in land use planning and ensuring regulatory compliance.Coming off of two years managing COVID-19, Polk County has experienced unprecedented amounts of growth. It's the fastest-growing county in Florida and the seventh-fastest growing in the nation. According to the census, 753,520 people lived in Polk County in July 2021, up from 725,046 people in 2020 and 602,095 people in 2010. Most of the population increase in Polk County stems from immigration rather than new births. For the 2021-2022 fiscal year, over $1.6 billion has been invested in Polk County for residential and commercial development. That's a jump from the under $1.2 billion invested between 2020 and 2021, and an even larger increase from the lowest point in the last decade — just under $200 million invested in the 2013-2014 fiscal year. For the 2022-2023 the budget is $2.4 billion.Stay up to date on Polk County, attend public hearings, learn about services, news, upcoming events and more, visit: Polk-County.net.#KidsNeedKiwanisJOIN TODAY! ...
